Hong Kong to Guilin by Air
Are you searching for the ways to experience the Li River from Hong Kong for your Guilin trip? As the Li River is located in Guilin and Yangshuo, let’s see the different ways to travel to Guilin from Hong Kong first.
Obviously, the quickest way to Guilin from Hong Kong is by airplane. As at 1st January 2020, only Cathay Dragonair offers 1 x direct flight to Guilin from Hong Kong on a daily basis. There are also other flights from Hong Kong to Mainland China with transfers required. During the summer holiday, it could be possible that the airline offers one flight one day while during the low season, the number of the direct flights to Guilin from Hong Kong could be less. |
The Li River Cruise is the #1 Activity in Guilin!
When arriving at Guilin Liangjiang International Airport, you could rent a vehicle to the Li River which flows through the City of Guilin for some 49.3 kilometers. It runs past the Lijiang Bridge, the Liberation Bridge, the Nanzhouwan Bridge, the Elephant Trunk Hill, the Fubo Hill, the Diecai Hill, and Jingping Hill. The airport shuttle bus can take you to Guilin Minhang Hotel which is within 5 minutes walk from the Lijiang Bridge. Or, you could hail a taxi to the Liberation Bridge and then walk to the shoal of the Li River above the bridge to enjoy the cool wind in summer. Also, you could take a taxi from the airport to the Binjiang Road which lies along the Li River.

Hong Kong to Guilin by High Speed Train
The other popular option now available to travel from Hong Kong to the Li River, is via the high-speed train. Currently, as at 1st January 2020, there are 3 x daily high speed trains operating directly between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Guilin. These 'bullet' trains typically take 3.5 x hours and immigration formalities occur in Hong Kong West Kowloon Station (departing from Hong Kong Customs and entering Mainland China Customs).
The high-speed train journey from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Guilin typically has stops at both Shenzhen North Railway Station and Guangzhou South Railway Station, of which both are large high-speed train railway hubs but from Guangzhou South usually goes directly to Guilin. After arriving into Guilin, visitors have the option to travel to Guilin City to experience the Li River and its surrounding attractions (Elephant Trunk Hill, Fubo Hill etc.). Alternatively, visitors can also travel further to Yangshuo either via high-speed train to Yangshuo Station (near Xingping) or via road to Yangshuo. Some of the spectacular Li River attractions in the Yangshuo area include Nine Horse Fresco Hill, Xianggong Hill, Laozhai Mountain, 20 Yuan Note and more! |
